Content Guidelines
Effective: 2026-05-21
These guidelines apply to every piece of content you submit as a signed-in user within the BOXIA app — in particular photos of vending machines, ratings, reports on broken or missing machines, and suggestions for new machine locations.
1 · Scope
BOXIA is a map app that makes vending machines discoverable. For other users to rely on the content, one rule applies: your contribution must relate to the machine you're currently looking at — and must not contain anything offensive.
These guidelines supplement our Privacy Policy and Imprint and form part of the app's terms of use under Apple App Store Review Guidelines §1.2 and Art. 14 of the EU Digital Services Act.
2 · What you may share
We welcome every helpful contribution.
- OK Photos showing the machine or its selection — multiple angles or different lighting are great.
- OK Factual ratings: How clean was it? Was the selection fresh? Did payment work?
- OK Reports when a machine is broken, empty, or has been removed from the location.
- OK Suggestions for new machines at locations we don't yet cover.
3 · What's not allowed
To keep BOXIA usable for everyone, the following content is forbidden — even if it only affects part of a photo or a rating:
Offensive or unlawful content
- No Nudity, sexual content, glorification of violence, or graphic imagery.
- No Hate speech, discrimination, or insults based on origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
- No Threats, harassment, bullying, or stalking — including indirect targeting.
- No Content that glorifies criminal acts, promotes drugs, or encourages self-harm.
Protecting people
- No Identifiable people without their consent. If someone happens to be in the background of your photo, retake it or anonymize the photo first.
- No Third-party personal data: real names, phone numbers, addresses, license plates.
- No Data that could identify other users — even if publicly accessible elsewhere.
Copyright and trademarks
- No Photos taken by someone else.
- No Logos, brand marks, or promotional material that isn't clearly tied to the reported machine.
Spam and manipulation
- No Advertising for products, services, or websites unrelated to the machine.
- No False or misleading claims — e.g., reporting a machine that doesn't exist, or rating a machine you never used.
- No Rating or photo floods: many submissions in a short period to manipulate visibility or statistics.
4 · How we moderate
BOXIA uses multi-layer moderation to act on violations quickly:
- Pre-publication review: User-uploaded photos go through review before they become visible to others. Operator and BOXIA-Staff uploads are pre-trusted and published directly.
- Community reports: Any user can report any visible photo via the three-dot menu. Three independent reports automatically hide the photo and put it into manual review.
- Manual review: Our moderation team examines reported content swiftly and removes anything that violates these guidelines.
- Right to appeal: If your contribution was removed and you believe that's wrong, reach out via email (see below) — we review every appeal.
5 · Reporting content
Any user can act on a visible photo from inside the app:
- Open the photo → three-dot menu top-right → tap "Report photo".
- Pick a reason (Inappropriate, Doesn't show a machine, Copyright, Person identifiable, Spam, Other).
- Optionally add a short note — mandatory when picking "Other".
- Submit. You'll see a confirmation that your report was received.
You can also email violations to moderation@boxia.app — please include the affected machine (address or M-ID) and a screenshot.
6 · Hiding contributions from other people
After successfully reporting a photo, you can directly hide all photos from the person who uploaded it — you'll then no longer see any photos from that contributor. This is a purely local view-filter, not a social block (BOXIA has no user-to-user communication).
You can view and re-enable hidden contributors in the app under Profile → Privacy → Hidden contributors.
7 · Consequences of violations
Violations of these guidelines may lead to the following measures — depending on severity and recurrence:
- Removal of the affected contribution.
- Warning via push notification or email.
- Suspension of your account from further UGC uploads (photo/rating/report).
- Permanent account deletion for repeated or severe violations.
For unlawful content, we reserve the right to cooperate with the relevant authorities.
